Q: Where is the product now? How has it changed?
A: The LWR System has been re-branded to the on-farm fertilizer and water treatment PLANT. It has become the most sought-after sustainability solution in the world by global livestock producers who are looking to grow more crops and produce more food using less money and fewer resources. This proven, patented nutrient recovery platform reduces the volume of livestock manure by concentrating nutrients into crop fertilizers, while recycling back clean water. The system is now smaller, more automated, and technology advancements have increased operation time, decreased labor expenses, and reduced the costs associated with operator error. Livestock producers can improve operating profit margins by strategically controlling and maximizing value of nutrient products to increase crop yields and sell products into the fertilizer, carbon credit, and biogas markets. Commercialized PLANTs have the combined ability to recycle over one billion gallons of manure annually with the potential recovery of over 550 million of gallons of clean, reusable water! That’s enough water to fill 829 Olympic sized pools, or the annual water consumption of over 15,000 Canadians. Our plan is to transform ONE TRILLION GALLONS of manure and food waste bioliquids into recycled clean water and bio-based fertilizers by 2050, impacting 10 of the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals.
Q: What innovations are you working on now?
A: We are working on a carbon removal platform called ManureX, that will demonstrate how manure can save the planet! Now focused on the digitization of manure, LWR launched LOIS as the first ever Machine Learning module to use the power of AI and data to optimize manure treatment using proprietary algorithms to make decisions after analyzing hundreds of data points. LOIS was named Top 10 New Product in 2021 and has been the recipient of numerous other industry awards validating our commitment to advancing our technology and increases the value of each installation! The biogas market is set to expand massively over the next five years, with 200 expected installations on US dairy farms, and LOIS seamlessly bridges these partnerships. Our objective is to transform manure into a valuable farm product and inform producers of the most valuable possible end-use, be it fertilizing feed crops, RNG generation, or fertilizer sales.
Our digital approach is now being used to facilitate easier access to off-farm linkages for Renewable Natural Gas, fertilizer sales and carbon credits. We can automate the data files to the credit markets so this is seamless for producers. In the biogas market that has started the predicted massive expansion, our digitized approach increases value creation. With LOIS, LWR is bridging all possible valuable partnerships, including in the growing water markets. The digitization and datafication of manure allows producers to make the most informed decisions possible about the exact value they have in their manure to then determine the best avenue for the carbon, water, and nutrients. This means that they can easily determine the EXACT amount they need for their feed crops and can then sell the remaining product into the fertilizer, carbon credit, or biogas markets. LOIS is helping protein producers use the power of digital technology to unlock value trapped in lagoons to ultimately take them “lagoon free”!
Q: How did winning the Top-10 award help your company and the winning product?
A: Winning the Top-10 Award in 2010 at World Ag Expo® launched our company and our innovation on the international agri-tech stage. Having our system evaluated and selected by World Ag Expo’s® elite panel of judges, demonstrated to us that our innovative product was valuable for the global livestock industry. Winning the award boosted our company’s profile and solidified our reputation as the leading and most trustworthy brand in manure treatment, that would deliver a proven nutrient recovery option for livestock producers. Winning the award was also a big lift to our team, who felt recognized and validated for their hard work.
Winning the Top-10 Award in 2021 at World Ag Expo® has massively expanded our market reach and provided a very helpful platform to share our technology advancements while demonstrating our commitment to the digitization of the manure footprint. This allowed the industry to see success stories – how other livestock producers are improving operating profit margins by strategically controlling and maximizing value of nutrient products to increase crop yields and sell products into the fertilizer, carbon credit, or biogas markets. By seeing how this has created so much value for farms, others are joining in.
Q: What’s next for Livestock Water Recycling?
A: We know that manure can save the planet and we want to support livestock farms who are challenged daily by increasing regulatory and consumer pressure by allowing them to showcase best practices and highlight and validate their incredible carbon sinking footprint. We are committed to playing an active role in creating a low-carbon future in global food systems. For us, that means giving food producers a tool to engage in the carbon removal market while reducing on farm emissions to help in the fight against climate change. In 30 years, the human population of our planet will reach 10 billion. To meet the challenge of feeding the world, sophisticated data analytics tools will drive efficiencies and cut waste in food production. Our digital solutions connect and enhance sustainable food production by offering increased transparency that supports regenerative agriculture practices that reduce carbon emissions, increase the sustainable management of water, and upcycles waste to worth.
